About me

I am Julian Quispel: a developer, student, fitness enthusiast, investor, car fanatic and a techie from the Netherlands. Currently, I’m employed as a freelance full stack developer while being a student at the Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in Zwolle. Once I learned myself how to write code - to be able to create software applications of my own - demand of my services followed. I have been developing as a freelancer since 2017 and I have been tasked with all kinds of requests for websites and web applications. Most of the projects I do for clients are in co-operation with my partner where he is responsible for the frontend and I for the backend. Where we started providing services for small businesses, we are currently shifting more and more towards medium companies and large corporations. We do, however, still service small business, albeit under a spin-off company.

Since the 3 years we started working together, the amount of projects have increased dramatically and so have we. That’s why I’m now able to invest in my own projects and work with many different companies and people.

Experiences

Work

PHP Backend Developer

Apr 2018 - Sep 2019
El NiñoEnschede, The Netherlands

I worked as a PHP backend developer working with the Laravel framework to develop API's. I learned a lot about working in an international team and deploying applications to production.

Internship Tech Hub

Feb 2022 - Jul 2022
WehkampZwolle, The Netherlands

In my third year of college I wanted to do an internship to get more familiar with how working in a big organisation is like. Wehkamp, a big online retailer of fashion and living in my hometown Zwolle, seemed like a good fit. For my internship, I compared multiple static site generation frameworks in order to research how Wehkamp can use this technology for their website. I made a custom built version of their existing tech blog on Medium using Gatsby as a proof of concept.

Graduation project

Jan 2022 - Jun 2022
QuintorAmersfoort, The Netherlands

In my fourth and final year it was time for me to graduate. Because I did a summer school at Quintor, it also felt like a good fit to do my graduation project there. I chose to do a project in which I would research how the teams could do projects better with the goal of providing a better service for the clients. Based on the results of the research, I developed a full stack web application with ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework and React in which the teams could calculate the quality of their project and get insights on how they can improve.

Education

Bsc Technical Computer Science

Sep 2018 - Jul 2019
University of TwenteEnschede, The Netherlands

I wanted to study something technical. I already coded during high school as a hobby and for small clients, so studying Technical Computer Science at the Unversity of Twente (which is around 60 minutes by train from where I live) seemed like a good choice for me. The Computer Science subjects were not too difficult, however the education has a strong mathematical foundation. Because this was my weak spot I wasn't able to get the required points in order to continue this study. That's why I had to find something else.

HBO-ICT

Sep 2019 - Jul 2023
Windesheim University of Applied SciencesZwolle, The Netherlands

I didn't want to give up on an education in IT, because it was my passion. I could have gone to a different university, but I wanted to study closer to home. That's why I chose to go to Windesheim which is a university of applied sciences. I really liked the more practical approach and the way of teaching as compared to a regular university. I ultimately chose to graduate in the field of software engineering.
